Another Source’s client, Oregon State University, is recruiting an Assistant Director of Marketing Outreach and Communications to join their University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) team. This is a hybrid position working onsite 2-3 days per week.

UHDS recognizes the importance of learning both in and out of the classroom and supports the concept of education as an individual as well as a community experience. UHDS strives to provide students, faculty, staff and guests with safe, economical, convenient and comfortable living and dining options, and the department works to maintain the highest educational and service standards. UHDS houses more than 5,000 students and offers a variety of living and dining options in 16 residence halls, more than 25 restaurant locations across campus, a catering department, a campus market and family apartments.

About the Role: 


The Assistant Director position is a strategic marketing lead for university-wide programs and services that serve students, staff and faculty, and the larger OSU community. The position provides supervision, strategic direction and leadership in planning and implementing targeted marketing plans to achieve departmental goals for increasing participation, sales, and customer satisfaction in UHDS programs. This includes overseeing a marketing budget, supervising professional staff, assigning and producing print, digital and web projects, reviewing content creation, approving drafts and assessing outcomes. 


 

The Assistant Director is responsible for the strategic planning and oversight of all digital communications for the department, including the department’s web presence, social media networks and any other platforms identified. This position is also part of an outreach team that manages and participates in year-round events to recruit prospective and admitted students to campus in relationship with the Office of Admissions and the Office of Student Orientation. 


 

Anticipated salary range: $80,000-$85,000 


 

How your time will likely be spent: 


 

30% Supervision  


Supervises the daily work of two marketing managers to ensure the team is focused on developing and implementing strategic marketing programs, providing direction to advance departmental messages, and evaluating marketing programs with effective metrics. 

In charge of hiring staff, enforcing policies, providing training and development, continuously coaching staff, leading appraisals, approving leave and attendance, and assigning and approving work.  


 

30% Marketing and Brand Management 


Outlines a messaging strategy to build brand awareness, enhance departmental reputation and share valuable information with key stakeholders and audiences. 

Develops marketing plans, executes campaigns, assesses client requests and oversees projects with the goals of providing and enhancing revenue generation opportunities and increasing participation in UHDS programs.  

Works collaboratively with department colleagues to develop brand concepts and promote UHDS programs and services to internal and external constituents. Work with representatives from all partner UHDS units to create wide-reaching, targeted marketing plans, and they assess outcomes to enhance future outcomes; example initiatives and projects include the returning resident campaign and Orange Cash. 

Manage the department’s overall brand, including visual components and messaging, and provides expertise on compliance with all OSU brand guidelines as set forth by University Relations & Marketing. Leveraging the university’s guidelines, this position will develop systems, procedures and review processes for the department’s use, such as templates and UHDS brand tools.  


 

20% Communications 


Develops ideas, content and copywriting for campaigns and marketing communications.  

Oversees a social media and digital media strategy and content calendar, and develops and evaluates content to engage audiences on social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.  

Will assist in the creation, review, and distribution of highly confidential and sensitive departmental messages during campus incidents affecting UHDS facilities and services. The Assistant Director assists in monitoring online networks for any feedback or issues arising related to UHDS and appropriately responding to inquiries from any media outlets.  


 

15% UHDS Representation and OSU Outreach  


Serves as a member of and provides leadership for the UHDS Collaboration Team. This position serves as a department representative on divisional and institutional committees or initiatives as appropriate and speaks on behalf of the department as appropriate. 

Attend events, participate in tabling, and present to the various audiences to provide an overview of the on-campus residential and dining experience.  

Develops and maintains internal OSU and UHDS partnerships to enhance a commitment to serving traditionally underrepresented populations, and they participate in related campus programs. 

This position is also responsible for the tracking and inventory of any equipment purchased by the marketing team, such as props, event supplies, cameras, lighting accessories or other office equipment used for participation in tabling events or other activities promoting UHDS. 


 

5% Other Duties as Assigned 


Completes special projects, and completes other duties as assigned. 


 

What we would like to see from you: 


Bachelor’s degree in business/marketing, communications, journalism or related field. 

Five (5) years of professional marketing/communications experience, including development and implementation of marketing plans. 

Demonstrated experience in managing a budget for a program or campaign. 

Demonstrated leadership and/or supervision as a member of a creative team, such as supervising writers, designers, and/or videographers. 

Marketing experience directly interacting with prospective or current customers or stakeholders. 

Experience using a web content management system. 

Experience creating or editing digital content, including for the web, e-newsletters and social media. 

Understanding of design principles as related to the development of communications and marketing materials. 

Familiarity with design tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. 

Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, including the ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. 

Excellent written skills, including copywriting and editing. 

Strong verbal communication skills, including presentation skills (public speaking). 

Proven track record of creativity and innovative work. 


 

Preferred Qualifications 


Master's degree in business/marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or a field relevant to duties outlined in the position description. 

Demonstrated experience in crisis communications; serving as a lead spokesperson or crafting timely messages to internal and external audiences in an emergency. 

Knowledge of marketing tracking and web analytics. 

Demonstrated experience working within brand identity guidelines. 

Experience with Internet marketing, including promotion via Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM). 

Professional or personal experiences working with culturally, linguistically and/or racially diverse communities. 

Written and oral Spanish language proficiency. 

Marketing or recruiting experience in a university setting interacting with prospective students and families. 

Directly related professional marketing experience in a higher education setting as part of a self-operated housing and dining enterprise.
